Olympic Taekwondo until 2016

IOC Executive Board decided about 26 core sports.

WTF has sent a letter to national associations that IOC ExCo has decided about Taekwondo being one of the 26 core sports for Summer Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016. So, only for 2020 there will arise the question if Taekwondo remains inside the olympic program.

In addition to the 26 core sports, two more sports - golf and rugby - will have the chance to present itself at the IOC meeting in Copenhagen, shortly after the WTF World Championships in October. For 2012 Women's Boxing also has been adopted as an olympic sport by the IOC commission. More details about the IOC decision can be found here:

This will end some speculations about Taekwondo being excluded after 2012 but it will not end the struggle that it may continue to be an olympic sport after 2016.
