GB Team End Year’s Performances On A High

The Great Britain Taekwondo team finished the year with some world class performances at the French Open Championship, Paris, 4-5 December, winning 2 Gold and 5 Bronze medals.

A prestigious “A” class event, the French Open had an entry of 42 nations, including teams from Germany, Spain, Brazil and Iran. The depth of this world class competition was the largest of any Olympic weight group tournament this year.

Davoud Etminani (Fusion) won Gold in the -68kgs category, a weight that had over a hundred competitors and Cho Mahama (Cho Voice Academy) won in an impressive heavy weight field.

A further five bronze medals were won from Aaron Cook, Jordon Gayle, Bianca Walkden, Martin Stamper and Tyrone Robinson.

Gary Hall, GB Performance Director said “This was a great finish to 2009 but also a great start to the new season as the French Open is the first in a series of selection events for next year’s 2010 European Championships. All GB athletes competed at a very high level and encouraging performances are being seen from many of the elite academy athletes. Congratulations also go to a number of excellent junior performances including Jade Jones who won Gold and Reuben Richards who won Bronze”.
